Here is the original 1962 Scottish League Champions flag that used to be flown over Dens Park. Now it is framed, preserved for posterity. It is still on display, but away from the elements, in the Bobby Cox Stand.

My brother took this picture of the Dee Club banner in Paris, 1998. The lads weren't there for a Dundee FC fixture though, they were there as part of the Tartan Army for the Scotland v Brazil World Cup tie. As good a reason as any to have a bit of fun and flaunt the flag!
Here's a bit of fun you can have with your mates down the pub using a mobile, or at school with a calculator. It's called THE DEE SHIRT CHALLENGE. Here are the instructions you will need to get them to do...."Put in the number on Ian Ure's shirt"."Put in alongside it the number on Claudio Caniggia's shirt"."Multiply that figure by the number on Billy Steel's shirt".Ask, "what do they all have in common?"Then get them to turn the mobile/calculator upside down and read it.To help you, view the video below...it works!
This is the oldest aerial shot of Dens Park I have. The picture was taken on 11 Sept 1922. As you can see, the ground is situated on, what was then, the edge of the city limits. Very sparse North of Dens and to the left, where todays tenements in Provost Road & Moncur Crescent are, there was a football pitch. Must have been quite a slope to play futba on!5 days after this photo was taken, the Dees beat Partick Thistle 1-0 at Dens, in front of 17,000.Click on image to enlarge.

Over 8,000 turned out at Dens to celebrate DFC being crowned First Division Champions on 18th April 1998. The 2 images above show the team being presented with the trophy in the centre of the pitch, surrounded by camera crews and press. The game itself was against Ayr Utd and finished 1-1. Technically, we won the League the week before at Raith Rovers.Click on the image to enlarge.

This song came about as a consequence of Wallace scoring the goal that won us the Scottish League Cup in 1973. I remember it being sung regularly at Dens and on the bus to away games. The tune is "MacNamara's band". Depending on who the opposition was on the day, the last line of the song would change accordingly. For example, if it was Rangers it would be someone like Derek Johnstone, but for this wee karaoke version below, I've used United's Andy Gray. Feel free to sing along. Long, long ago, way before Deewok was born, Dundee FC had REAL creatures as mascots. The team in the early 1900's had a parrot, a monkey ( as above photo ) and a goat.!Photo by Dundee Reference Library.
These sports bags first hit the scene in the late 60's, then came to be a common sight around town by the 70's. Most major clubs had them, as did most kids! They were originally meant for carrying your sport gear around in but they quickly became a fashion item. At school they replaced the canvas haversack and duffle bag as the school bag of choice. There were 2 variations on offer, a smaller sized curved rectangle shape, and this larger square one which had an outer pocket where the club crest is. Shops in Dundee that sold them were: McGill's, Caird Sport, Alex Smith's and David Low. Still looks pretty smart to me!
Sometimes when teams in England need a bit of help, they come calling at Dens. 3 Dundee legends who made the move South in the 60's were, Alan Gilzean, Charlie Cooke & Ian Ure.Here is footage of the trio hitting the back of net for Spurs, Chelsea & Manchester Utd.At least they went to clubs who play in Blue, White & Red..!!Photos by DC Thomson.Tints by GG.
