CANIGGIA IN THE RAIN - 2001

I can't help laugh at this picture!
Here he is, Argentinian glamour guy & soccer superstar, Claudio Caniggia, stuck at the side of a training pitch, in the pissin' rain, in Dundee, wondering what the hell he has got himself into!!

The idea behind this was to have reproductions on sale at the Dee shop, but due to lousy timing, Caniggia signed it just a few days before he buggered off to Rangers, and so it never saw the light of day! Having said that, it did crop up a few years later on the cover of Norrie Price's DFC history book - "Up wi' the bonnets!".

CANIGGIA MEETS THE FANS

Although it looks like Caniggia has just walked into a hall of mirrors, the jocks in the locks are in fact, Dee fanatics, Ryan & Brian. They met the Argentinian superstar here at Dens when he signed for Dundee in October 2000.

After a desolate couple of decades, the Dee are back on the football mag covers. This one, Total Football, dated January 2001 focuses in on Caniggia and the Dundee revolution.

Dundee's glamour and glitz was not only getting big coverage in the football pages by this time but the club was also being featured in style magazines such as GQ.
A quote from back then that summed the up the fun and excitement Caniggia & co were creating was "There hasn't been a buzz like this in Dundee since The Beatles played Caird Hall in 1964."

From Argentina to Angus! The last megastar to wear a Dee shirt.
Here below is footage of Caniggia having a kick about in the snow at Dens. He went on to win "man of the match" for this game.
