CHAAAAAAAAAAARGE!!!

Here's a couple of great shots of jubilant Dee fans invading the pitch.
The happy occasion took place at East Stirling on 2nd May 1981 when Dundee won promotion back to the SPL with a 1-0 victory.
The dark blues had around 5000 at the game, most of which ended up on the pitch by the look of it!
The invasion was caught on tv too, so here below is the commotion after the final whistle.
Looking forward to a repeat of it this season!!
Big thanks to JG

THE UNION JACK CHANT - 1970'S

Back in the early 70's, when fan rivalry included the odd bout of bigotry in the banter, Dee fans sometimes borrowed ideas from the Gers when it came to singing chants on matchday.
As well as flaunting Union Jacks at matches (which was copied off Rangers), the Derry used to burst into the "Born Under A Union Jack" chant, a well known Gers song, but obviously, Dundee's version having a tweak to the wording. The original tune, by Lee Marvin is called "Wandering Star". Here below is a wee reminder of that very tune, with sing-a-long lyrics!
I wouldn't be surprised if it's outlawed now!!

HIT THE BAR

Not sure if this bar of chocolate was made by Cadderry's or Rowndee's, but let's hope it leads to a 2010 with the sweet taste of victory rather than sweet FA..!!
Happy Blue Year!

2 OLD SCHOOL DEE SCARVES

You will have spotted the scarf the Major was wearing in the DJ photo a few posts ago. Well here is that very one, in all it's 70's glory!
You can click the image to enlarge it if you want to zoom in to view the period patches.
The scarf on the right is a genuine original from the 60's, and has to be my all time favourite.
An iconic classic!
Big THANKS to Jock.

WILSON v WILSON - 1975

Dundee's Bobby Wilson battles it out with Celtic's Paul Wilson, and somewhere during the tussle Paul Wilson loses a boot, but as you can see, still manages to get in his tackle!!
The game was a Scottish Cup semi at Hampden on 2nd April 1975. Despite the lack of footwear, Celtic won it 1-0.

THE LONE RANGER?

Not 100% sure who this mystery keeper is, all alone in the Dens sunset.
I've zoomed in, and he looks a bit like Andy Goram to me. So if that's the case, the photo could be v Rangers, or more likely v Motherwell around 1998.
I asked the person who took the snap, but his memory is blank on this one.
If anybody can spot any clues, or can positively ID the goalie/game, then feel free to drop it into the comments.

2ND DERRY RUMBA T-SHIRT - BACK

Getting good value from the Derry Rumba design dept, here was the DFC tour schedule for the 90/91 season. A bit hasty with the forecast though, we didn't get promoted until the following season.

2ND DERRY RUMBA T-SHIRT - FRONT

This colourful t-shirt was the Derry Rumba design for the 1990/91 season. Having been relegated, the fightback was on!!

DERRY RUMBA T-SHIRT - BACK

And a view of the back of the t-shirt.

DERRY RUMBA T-SHIRT - FRONT

Here is the Derry Rumba t-shirt as advertised in the previous post. Quite a collectors item now.

DERRY RUMBA MERCHANDISE

This advert appeared in the Apr/May 1989 issue of Derry Rumba fanzine. The design for t-shirts & sweatshirts featured a bomber on the front and fist on the back.
Don't know how Dee fans abroad felt about paying £50 for postage mind you..!!
I think they did miss the opportunity to sell Derry Rumbaba sponge cakes though!!

JOE GILROY IN WHITE - 1969

Another shot of Joe, this time wearing white. The action is from a training session at Dens in 1969.

THE FULL SQUAD - 1997/98 SEASON

They seemed to have crammed in as many players & staff as they could find for this team picture. It turned out to be "the more the merrier" on this occasion though, as Dundee did finish top of Div 1.
"Firkin Brewery" was sponsor.

DFC FANZINE #1 - DERRY RUMBA

Along with your colours, the other essential a football supporter needs to carry around with them is a sense of humour, especially when your team isn't doin' the biz on the pitch!!
D.I.Y. fanzines are a great way for fans to display their humour, as well as chuck in the occasional serious point now and then. In the main though, having a laugh was usually the name of the game, whether it be satirical write-ups, amusing opinions, cartoons, or of course, just putting the boot into your rivals!
This one above, Derry Rumba, is dated Feb/Mar 1989, and features Dundee's short-lived manager, Dave "Coco" Smith on the cover.
In addition to the funny stuff available inside, there is also Derry Rumba merchandise on offer, with badges & T-shirts on sale.
