BILLY STEEL IN TARTAN - 1953

I isolated the Billy Steel image from the 1982-83 handbook and tidied it up a bit, because this is the only photo I have of him "in action" wearing the DFC tartan shirt. The picture would have been taken on Dundee's tour of South Africa in 1953.
Don't know if it's just a trick of the light, but when I was cleaning the photo I noticed it looked like Billy was wearing tartan/argyle socks too. If it is, then that's a piece of Dee strip trivia I never knew!

DFC JERSEY - 1998/99

This is the shirt Dundee wore for the 1998/99 season.
With sponsors Scottish Hydro-Electric on the front...and a reminder of who the team is on the back!

DUNDEE'S BRACES STRIP - LATE 70'S

This is the short sleeved version of Dundee's braces shirt the team wore in the 1976 - 79 era. Still looking pretty smart too!
Admiral made the original official strip back in the day, but you can still grab a replica top from retro sportswear outlets these days.
The photo underneath it is Jimmy Johnstone wearing the full kit in 1977.
Jinky was at the tale end of his career when he signed for DFC, and consequently only managed to play 2 full games in the Dee colours. I, however, saw him play a couple of extra games, because I used to go watch the reserves play too in this era, and I can tell you he actually played better in the reserves than he did in the big team. Not the wee wizard he once was, but still managing to run rings 'round the youngsters at times.
Thanks to JF & GK.

DFC CUP FINAL CREST - 1980

A nice close up of the badge on the players shirt for Cup Final day in 1980. This being the Scottish League Cup of course, played at Dens on 6th December that year. Not such a good result on the day though. All that fancy sewing and not a stitch to show for it..!!

DFC HISTORY ONLINE

Roond the backies in 1998. Just thought I'd keep this one short and sweet!

BONNIE SHIRT - MESSY RESULTS

This away jersey is from the 2004-05 season. Not Dundee's true colours but still pretty smart. Unfortunately, the classy design wasn't matched by classy play, and down to Div 1 we went at the end of the season!

KEEP YER SHIRT ON - #2

This doesn't look like a Dundee top but it almost became one.
Xara came up with the idea to have an alternative 3rd away strip and designed this effort, in green. Luckily, the concept wasn't approved and only prototype samples were ever made.
Ok for a goalie maybe. Some of the players ended up using the spares for training.

DUNDEE'S FIRST FOOTBALL KIT

Boland & Co in Hawkhill were the suppliers of sports outfits in Dundee in the 1890's.
Above are 2 original adverts with a Dundee FC interest.
The one on the left is dated 1893, and on it amongst the teams who's kits they supply are, Our Boys.
I'm sure everyone will know that later that year, Our Boys amalgamated with East End to form Dundee Football Club as we know it today.
And so onto the advert on the right. It is dated 1894, only this time in amongst the team kits, it has, Dundee Football Club.
Quite literally Dee history in the making!
I couldn't help notice football shorts are referred to as "Knickers" in the ad, and described as being Swansdown.
I reckon the football shorts they make these days are "Ducksdown"...that would explain all that diving!
