George McGeachie guarding the post in a game against Rangers on 5th Feb 1983, a match that ended in a 1-1 draw. This league game was at Ibrox, but amazingly, it only attracted a 7,000 crowd. There was also another George McGeachie who played for DFC in the early 60's but I haven't been able to discover if they are related. If anyone knows, drop it in the comments.
Here's the programme from the recent Hall of Fame dinner held at the Invercarse, April this year. Among the speakers were Jim Duffy & comedian Jimmy Stirling.H.O.F. players honoured were - Longair, Cowie, Caniggia, Barry Smith, Steel, Jocky Scott, Glizean and Cox.
A more up to date DFC pennant here, from sometime in the 90's. A kind of satin material this time with a nice simple but smart design.
From around the mid 70's era is this original DFC pennant which I'm sure a few of you probably had on your wall at the time. A little tatty near the bottom but otherwise in top notch condition. This was made of a plastic/pvc type of material which has probably helped keep it in such good nick after 4 decades.
I find this a funny image. It's like the prince and the paupers, with Bob Shankly in his shirt & tie and Bobby Cox and co hanging around as if they are just back from a jumble sale! Not one of the players outfits match....and a couple of them are wearing sannies!!Photo by DC Thomson.
Eric Sinclair on the cover of this Official Handbook from the 1981-82 season.Although it is twice the price of the previous one, it has pretty much the same content - a word from DFC Director Ian Gellatly - match action photos - a message from manager Donald MacKay - player profiles on Bobby Geddes, Iain Ferguson, Albert Kidd & David Bell - a quiz - squad picture and info - item about coach Ken Wimshurst - club history and the new fixtures.
Quite a nice illustration of the DFC "braces" kit on the cover of this Official Handbook from the 77/78 season.Content includes - a word from chairman Ian Gellatly - match action shots - a message from manager Tommy Gemmell - quiz - profiles on Bobby Hutchinson, Billy Pirie, Iain Phillip, Ian McDougall & Ian Redford - club history - squad photo - DFC Social Club news - famous game from the past and the latest fixture list.
George Shaw about to commence his goal celebration after bangin' one in against United. He actually scored 2 in this game at Tannadice on 18th Nov 95 - Dee winning it 3-2 with Wieghorst getting the 3rd.Photo by DC Thomson.
Dens Park - Delivering the goods with a First Class performance..!!
No booing now..!!He actually looks quite cheery here. It must have been his move across the road that turned him soor...!!!Anyway, his time as a DFC player was from 1965 to 68, where he notched up 120 games in total. He was even Dundee's top scorer one year - the 1966/67 season. It took him a few games to get going though - his dark blue debut in Sept 65, ironically against United, saw us get walloped 5-0!!This photo was taken in 1970, during the time he was first team coach.
And finally, a few finishing touches to the 2 new Stands to complete the work. Just a bit of tidying up to do.
Reaching the final stages of the new look Provie Road end. Once the seats are in place it is ready to be named The Bobby Cox Stand.
Getting there....work in progress at the Shankly Stand.
Looking back up at the progress being made at the Provie Road end.
Meanwhile, down at the TC Keay end, the other Stand starts to take shape.
Got a batch of photos showing the new Stands at Dens being constructed around the new millennium. Here we see the flattened area where the old Provie Road enclosure was, and it's replacement being pieced together.
Alan Cousin was at Dens from 1955 to 1965, and as a consequence, has him in Dundee's top 10 longest serving players of all time with a whopping 384 appearances. Being a striker, he has also banged in rather a lot of goals in his time - 141 to be precise - the club's 4th highest scorer. He was the Dees top scorer 3 seasons on the trot - 1957/58 - 1958/59 - 1959/60. The era he played saw him win the Scottish League title in 1962 and take part in the following famous European Cup run. In 1959 he represented Scotland twice at international level. The above photo was taken in his final year with Dundee in 1965.
