Here's a cutting from a 1963 Sporting Post, featuring a young Arthur Montford discussing the top football story of the day, with guests - Davie Wilson & George McLean of Rangers and Dundee superstars, Alan Gilzean & Alec Hamilton.

WILSON v WILSON - 1975

Dundee's Bobby Wilson battles it out with Celtic's Paul Wilson, and somewhere during the tussle Paul Wilson loses a boot, but as you can see, still manages to get in his tackle!!
The game was a Scottish Cup semi at Hampden on 2nd April 1975. Despite the lack of footwear, Celtic won it 1-0.

2003 CUP FINAL RADIO BROADCAST

They gave it a good go but Dundee finished runners up in the 2003 Scottish Cup final. Here is the team going over to applaud the Dee fans who travelled through to Hampden for the occasion.
If you weren't in amongst the 20,000 Dundee supporters at the match, you probably watched it live on television. Below, however, is a rare recording of the radio coverage. Although I have the full match, this is only the first 10 minutes of the broadcast to give you an idea how it sounded across the airwaves.

GILLIE SCORES IN ABERDEEN - 1963

Below is a piece of footage showing how football was presented on BBC Scotland back in 1963. There is a short comment in it about Dundee beating Aberdeen 4-2 at Pittodrie, on the day this snippet was broadcast. The day being 7th September, and the goal scorers being Gilzean (2), Cameron & Penman.
Dundee finished 6th in the 63/64 season as well as being Scottish Cup finalists, unfortunately losing out to Rangers.

1962 - IN COLOUR!

This familiar image of Dundee captain, Bobby Cox, taken in 1962, has previously only been viewed in black & white. This tinted version gives you an idea of how the photo would have looked had the photographer used a colour spool.
Similarly, the famous film of Dundee winning the title at Muirton the same year was also shot in black & white. Well I had a go at colourising that too. It's not exactly in glorious Technicolour but if you ignore the green sky, you'll see I did at least manage to get the Dees shirts dark blue.
Can't see it winning any Oscars though!

DFC IN THE NEWSPAPERS: #2 - 1962

DC Thomson went to town on this issue of the Sporting Post dated Saturday 28 April 1962, the day Dundee won the Scottish League. 2 goals by Gilzean and 1 from Penman got us the victory at Muirton against St.Johnstone, and thus Dee history was made.
They no longer publish the Sporting Post but I still remember hanging around our newsagent as a young lad in the 60's & 70's, a couple of hours after the Saturday football had finished, and a queue would be waiting ready to pounce on the bundle of Posts chucked onto the pavement from the passing delivery van.

Music is provided by The Shadows, a track aptly titled "Wonderful Life", which was number 1 in the charts on this day.

DFC IN THE NEWSPAPERS : #1 - 1910

An ultra rare item which is now 99 years old. The Glasgow Herald dated - Thursday 21 April 1910. Price, one penny. This of course is the day after Dundee won the Scottish Cup and so it does contain a review of the match.
It has 16 huge pages - much larger than the Courier. There are no photos at all in the paper, there aren't even any headlines as we know them today, just small boxes with short news articles and adverts. There are news items on Roosevelt, Kitchener, Mark Twain, and closer to home a piece about the plans to build the Usher Hall in Edinburgh. I don't think these would have been discussed much in the Hulltoon pubs that day!
So, getting back to the MAIN story, the Scottish Cup Final 2nd replay at Ibrox which ended Dundee 2 v 1 Clyde. Dee scorers - Bellamy & Hunter.
A segment of the match report reads as follows - "Dundee, who played brilliant football, obtained the leading goal; Hunter, after a short individual run, giving McTurk no chance with a shot from short range."
The cup was presented in the Ibrox Pavilion to ex Bailie Robertson, on DFC's behalf.
Total takings were £793.

DEE FANS ON THE WAY TO HAMPDEN - 2003

A cheery group of Dundee supporters on their way to the Scottish Cup final in 2003. They stopped off in this social club on the outskirts of Glasgow and arrived just in time to catch a programme showing the history of Dundee FC as you can see by the image of Bob Shankly's 60's team on the TV screen in the background.
