A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE

The present team got penance - the past teams got pennants!
This colourful little corner of the Dens boardroom goes back to the early 60's.
I've managed to identify most of the teams on the pennants, so we have - Unione Sportiva Palermo (Italy) - Sporting Lisbon (Portugal) - Uhrik Truckers Philadelphia (USA) - SSV Reutlingen (Germany) - Arsenal - Club Deportivo Guadalajara (Mexico) - KR Reykyavik (Iceland) - Legia Warsaw (Poland) - FC Saarbrucken (Germany).
Sitting on the sideboard along with the League Championship trophy are a Lisbon Lion, a photo of the 1962 champions team and a golden Portuguese Caravel in a glass case.

GELLATLY WITH THE GOODS

This is DFC Chairman, James Gellatly, keeping a close eye on the Scottish League Championship trophy in 1962.
Wonder how much the club spent on Duraglit that year?!

1st DIVISION CHAMPS - 1998

This is the kind of image we're all hoping to see repeated in a few months time - a Dundee player holding the 1st Division Championship Trophy aloft.
On this occasion, it is Barry Smith flaunting the silverware back in 1998.

DENS PARK IN 1988

This aerial shot of Dens Park was taken in 1988. It shows the bench seating in place around the Provost Rd - Dens Rd section.
The 87/88 season was a rather average year in the SPL, with the Dees finishing 7th.
Tommy Coyne was our top scorer with 37 goals.
The way some of the cup ties worked out meant that Dundee ended up playing Dundee United an incredible 9 times that season!
We did get a trophy however, winning the Tennents Sixes indoor tournament... so no too bad!

DUNDEE BRING HOME THE LEAGUE CUP - 1973

Saturday evening, 15th December 1973, and here is Gordon Wallace parading the Scottish League Cup on returning back to Dundee from Glasgow. It was of course Wallace who netted the winning goal at Hampden, against Celtic, that won us the trophy.
You can't tell from this photo just how awful the weather was that Saturday, but I was one of the one's who braved the horrendous conditions to travel through on the day to watch the final. Then again, we didn't really notice the weather after the final whistle went!
Also in the picture is, George Stewart centre and Bobby Ford on the right.

INSIDE THE DUNDEE BOARDROOM

Alongside all the trophies on display in the Dens boardroom is a sizeable collection of rare, historic souvenirs showing the history of the Club.
Here below is a wee look around some of the memorabilia in the room.
They also do a rather nice fruit salad....

THOMSON ALLAN - 1974

It's not often goalies win awards, but here is Thomson Allan having just received the Player of the Year trophy for the 1973/74 season. Not only was he on top form for Dundee that season but he was also capped for Scotland and was in the Scottish squad that went to Germany for the 1974 World Cup.
The trophy was presented by the Dee Club.
